Good reference on specialized equipment
The book is a good reference source on specialized equipment.Its only limitation is that it covers only a narrow period of Soviet equipment.Even so, it is a good book for a collector of Soviet items, flight gear, or anyone with an interest in military survival gear.

The only book of its kind

Agree with the Casteneda comparison
though what I think of Casteneda is another story.
A hilarious book on the scout's psychological warfare.
Brown is definitely not the best writer, but this book is delightful! The stories of the scout's psychological warfare are hilarious. I wanna be a scout! This is not a skills book but Tom Brown's stories about the Way of the Scout, which he now teaches at his tracker school.

The best outdoor book ever written. period.
My dad put a first-edition copyof this book in my hands when I was in first grade.It taught me to read.I still read it regularly.I have 15-20' of outdoors, camping, Scouting, hunting, survival and edible wild plant books on my shelf.This one book outshines them all.I bought copies of this book for each of my sons the week they were born, and have found copies for each Eagle Scout produced by our troop.If you want to understand wood lore and camp craft from a master, who collected it for a lifetime in the first decades of the last century, this is a masterpiece.Some of the first aid stuff is outdated, but things from canoe design, crafting your own primitive camping equipment to edible plants are written in a wonderfully winsome manner.Particularly if you wonder how people camped and canoed before we had all the high-tech junk we drag around today, this book will amaze you.Fresh every time I read it.

Any fool could write a better book over a long weekend
There are only three kinds of information in this book. And you don't need to buy this book to get them. True to Life
I am a teenager and I sometimes screw up so the cops come looking for me, well I really gave them a run for their money one day, fact is they are still looking for me.I own it all to this book, it kept one more mark offmy record.I recommend this and the first one to anyone and everyone. Very disappointing
Expecting an encyclopedia..did not get it, maybe not possible in the 400 pages. It lacks the real bushcraft en real detail. No added value for me looking at the other books I have.

Great Basic Resource!
I found this book to be a great explaination of some of the things I read about, such as in Nat. Geo Adventure or Outside. It helps to put perspective on the skills needed and explains some skills I had always heard about but never really understood.I would recommend this book to the basic explorer and more advanced traveler.Thanks, Annie and Chris, for getting me excited for more outdoor play this winter!!!!

The Ulimate Guide for the Adventurous
This book is a temendous amount of fun to read. There is so much practical information on so many topics, I learn something new every time I pick it up. I find the descriptions easy to understand and the many illustrations useful. Today I read about dogsledding, rappelling and boulder fields. I learned at least two ways to waterproof my map, and how to organize an evacuation. I also read about how to perform a crevasse rescue, and what to do if I get lost. If I decide that I like any one topic enough to read a whole book on it, the authors give personal recommendations for further reading. I highly recommend this book any person interested in wilderness travel. As for me - I will be buying many copies as presents for my friends. ... Read more

I'm ready for the Outback!
This book is a mix of great advice for rookies and regular adventurers. It gives you all the info. you need for roughing it in the Outback.Wilby is a well-known adventure and writer and knows her stuff. It is not a "tourist's guide" and is somewhat like that book about Extreme Survival tips where they tell you how to escape a submerged car or killer bees, but not as outlandish.Read more

Miracle on the mountain
This book was truely amazing. it shows you the power of prayer . when i read the letter i cried my eyes out i really felt for matt and his dad . i cant think what it would be like for them and there family. this is a billant boook to read.
An amazing tale
Wow...This book was amazing. When I entered the library I first picked this book up with reluctance. I'm of a rather un-religious nature, and I feared from the title that this might be a preachy book. However, in need of something to read, I checked it out anyway. Let me just say: wow. This story greatly displayed faith and survival in a way that touched the heart and kept my interest. It wonderfuly integrated religious teachings and a great story, one that really did make me think. I wish the best to the Couillard's in the future and reccomend this book to anyone who need proof that the impossible can be overcome if you keep trying and keep faith in yourself and others.

I purchased this book to assist in trailng tracking and trailing dogs and it ends up telling how to kill the animal This author should find another job and quit writing junk "Can I get a refund" If there was any way to rate this below 1 star I would have

For seventeen years (1930 to 1947), poet, artist, and author Marshal South and his family lived on the remote, waterless mountaintop in California's Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and is referred to as "Ghost Mountain".
