It is what it is - a detailed book about Peacock Springs and some of the other U/W caves of north Florida.It is detailed, well researched book on a specific cave system, from a scuba divers point of view.If you want to learn about this area - might be the ONLY book you can get - hence it is invaluable.Has sections on the biology of caves, geology, maps of caves, past explorers, etc.

MUST read for all riders
I've never really benefited from reading books about riding in the past, but Hunter Seat Equitation changed that! I constantly refer to the book when I'm riding and it has made me much more aware of my body and aids. The pictures are wonderful and really give a good example of what you are trying to achieve. It even includes things you might not expect, like how to choose the right horse to compliment your style of riding. Wonderful book.

Best book on riding
This is the best book on how to ride. Written logically, and so the reader can understand how to ride. Watch the video after reading the book. Every time you read it, you get more out of it.

Required Reading

How to help gundogs train themselves
As an all breeds trainer of gundogs, this book is the first book that I recommend for everyone witha new puppy whether the first puppy or the latest in a line of gundogs. It is well thought out, well written and full of solid information and suggestions. Read it, re-read it and use it, you will be glad you did.
A must read for all dog owners
I am an avid bird hunter here in the Northestern US. Through the years I have owned, trained and handled a number of hunting and non-hunting dogs. I also judge hunting dogs, not for show, but for their natural hunting qualities and their ability to take training to become excellent, finished hunting dogs and good citizens around the house. Consequently, I get to see a large number of dogs every year who have been trained using the principles outlined in Joan Bailey's book, and unfortunately, some who have not. There is no question in my mind this is the best book available for anyone who wants to groom a great hunting dog, and a wonderful canine companion. The book is beautifully written, concise, and best of all, it works. I recommend it, and often give it as a gift, to anyone I know who is getting a puppy. Buying this book and following it to the letter is the best thing any dog owner can do for themselves and for their dog!

Krakauer can write
Krakauer can write.As the author of the bestselling and better known "Into Thin Air," and "Into the Wild," he is also the author of many lesser known, but equally interesting adventures.
Okay but....
I loved Into Thin Air by Krakauer, so I purchased several of his other books, including this one.While the stories were interesting, it lacked the depth I enjoy from a book (likely because it appears to be reprints of magazine articles).It also seems that most (if not all) of these articles are 20+ years old.For the same price as this book I would been better off with a years subscription to Adventure magazine.

As Good as it gets..
You really can't go wrong with this one unless maybe you've already read the articles in the original magazines.

Kauai on a shoestring
If you're curious about what Kauai is like and what there is to do there, Kauai Trailblazer is your guide. Practical info is as good as you can get and their style is lively and positive.We counted on it day by day to get us to the highs. The locals even gave it the two thumbs up. We stayed in the plantation cottages they recommended and never looked back. Our getaway turned out to be not that expensive. We're going back for more at Christmas.

Prime guide
HIGHLY recommended.We designed our own itinerary weeks ahead looking at all the photos in the book.A virtual Kauai. Another good feature is their layout.The hikes and snorkeling spots are grouped according to place.As we circled around we knew exactly what there was to do in each town. In the front of the book, before the list of hikes is the authors "Best" list.Start there. If this is your first visit, this is the book to have.

Puuokila Hiking
If you are lucky enough to vacation on Kauai you should take the hike on page 170.It follows the highest rim along the top of the Kalalau Valley.The view down is an everchanging dreamscape.We followed the trail all the way to the Alakai Swamp, an all dayer, and when we returned around five the valley view took on a whole other personality with swirling clouds that were pink and orange.We made a poster of the photo we took at sunset. ... A new nautical classic with great sailing insights

Alll of what you need to know
This book is well written and covers everything you need to know for an off shore voyager.I believe it is a must read for before a first time offshore journey.

Buy This Book
Even if you do not plan to sail shorthanded thousands of miles offshore it's a very good idea to understand in detail what makes your boat seaworthy in difficult circumstances and to make it so. Good Advice
You can easily pick up three books on offshore sailing and get three separate opinions of what type of boat you need.A fast boat will get across the pond faster.A big boat adds stability and can carry lots of accessories like auxiliary generators and water makers.John's theory is that you should get a boat that can be handled well by a small crew and tough enough to handle any weather that you are likely to run into.Since his opinion parallels my own, I can only assume that he is obviously a sailing genius.This book is highly recommended for anyone contemplating a voyage over the horizon. ... Clearly, his ambition is to share with newcomers the Zen-like joy of bike maintenance. Still the best guide, but ...
If this the first Zinn MTB maintenance guide you buy, you'll find tons of useful info. If you own the previous version, you'll see most of the material remains the same. The major (and welcome addendum) is the inclusion of rear shocks. However, few models are covered. For front shocks, there is still major and extended references to old forks, which I am in doubt ifpeople still use them, and superficial reviews for new ones. There are a few new items added like tuning rear shocks, Stan Notubes, slime, tubeless etc - but this info is readily available inweb sites. Overall I give this book 4 stars average - five if this is going to be your first copy, three if you have already one.

Essential
I have to say before getting this book I was a little worried it would be to advanced for someone so mechanically challanged to follow but it details just about every thing you would ever want to do on a bike that even someone like me can follow.
Benefits for both Veterans and Rookies
As a rookie, I first checked out the second edition Zinn from the local public library - it taught me the basics of adjusting the limit screws on my derailleur and how to replace spokes on my rigid frame mountain bike.

Irresistable birds, fascinating trivia, interesting science
Fascinating book. The sheer amount of literary and artistic references the authors bring in serve to show the importance of crows to our culture. The epigraph is a Robert Frost poem, "Dust of Snow."
Original Drawings
Crows and ravens have always lived with me and I with them. As an only child who grew up among adult human relatives, I may have had more "socialization" training from crows than from my own human family. About the only thing the crows didn't teach me was how to knit. (I learned that from my father who swore me to secrecy!) What I know now is that if the crows saw any need for sweaters, they'd have taught me that too.

A good reference
'Under the Black Flag' is a book containing the history of the pirates age (1600-1700's). The book focuses on the pirates of the Caribbean, but does reference pirates in the South China Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the coast of Africa.
An Excellent Reference
This is a compelling read for anyone interested in the history of Pirates. The author obviously did his research and cited his sources correctly which adds to the legitimacy of this work. The main focus is to present factual information and dynamically contrast it to fictitious images the public commonly hold of piracy. Dates and time lines play a crucial part and the overall picture is presented logically and coherently. This is a must have for novices interested in a broad topical overview as well as those who are interested in the origins of the fiction surrounding pirates.

Great Source of Information of Countries and Ports of Entry
This is a well structured book that provides a one stop source of information on port of entry procedures among other thing. However with that said. I have just returned from the Leeward Islands and found the entry procedures have completely changed. No longer do you fly the Q flag and wait, but the skipper can proceed directly to customs and immigrations. This is no doubt due to the increased yacht traffic.So talk with other yachts going to or coming from your destination to get the latest information on entry and clearance information. ... Read more

excellent, but expensive
The book is without doubt the best ornithology textbook in existance.While this may be aided by the fact that it is virtually the only one there is out there, it is accurate, comprehensive and user friendly. my main problems are that it is starting to be a little dated, and of course - the price.

Bird Biology at its Best!
I searched for a textbook on ornithology that I could use in association with the Bird Biology Home Study Course that I was planning to take through Cornell University.I found the textbook at Amazon.com.The information in this textbook is absolutely wonderful!Frank Gill presents an "encyclopedia" of information in an easy-to-read, comprehensible format.Anyone interested in the serious study of bird biology will want to add this textbook to his or her bookshelf.Within the next few months, I will reread this textbook again.How many textbook readers can honestly state that they would reread any textbook in its entirety?Every chapter intrigued and delighted me.I will be actively searching for more books by Frank Gill, based upon the presentation of materials in Ornithology, 2nd edition.

Could not put it down....
This superb book was such fun to read and it is packed full of interesting and thought-provoking information. Space prohibits a chapter-by-chapter review so I will list the things in the book that I found very interesting: 1. The plumage color patterns of dawny young shorebirds. 2. DNA hybridization experiments and evolutionary tree of herons. 3. Geese flying in formation to save energy. 4. The use of thermals by a gliding vulture to counteract sinking. 5. The unique landing abilities of birds: rotation of center of mass upward to stall directly over the landing site. 6. Vortex creation by beating wings of pigeons and kestrels. 7. Hey Ranger is a Good Book to Read
I have always wondered about the job of a National Parks Ranger.It was very enjoyable to read about experiences.It was also nice to read a little about the National Parks where the author worked.

Ah....The Memories!
Like a great song from years ago, Jim Burnett's stories hit you (and your funny bone) with nostalgia that takes you back to another time and place. My father was a Park Ranger for many years and the stories he told around the supper table keep in time with these (though I never remember laughing as hard as I did when I read about beavers gnawing on boat props!). Thanks for spinning some funny yarns about the outdoor-impaired! Now, if we could only get a reality show called..."So, you want to be a Park Ranger..."

Laugh and Learn
We saw this book while on vacation in Shenandoah National Park and decided to take a copy home. It was so much fun that we took turns reading it out loud in the car during the drive back. Our family has been campers and hikers for years, so we didn't have trouble believing some of the dumb things people do in parks, especially when it comes to wild animals. The author includes some really good tips for anybody planning a trip to the outdoors, but most of the learning is well disguised in the humor. This is a fun book for just about anybody. ... excellent teaching method
I've listened to all 3 cds just once through and already I can identify 5 or 6 birds by their calls.I find myself listening whenever I'm outside to see if I can hear one of the birds in this guide.I highly recommend getting this if you are interested in learning bird calls.It is highly effective.

Wonderful resource!
I am a novice bird watcher, and my enjoyment has increased exponentially after listening to these fabulous recordings.The material is logically organized and beautifully presented.Great to listen to in the car when heading to or from an outdoor adventure!
