Informative
This book had lots of good information on live bearers.I think it's an excellent source to start out with.If you are looking for very specific information, this may not be the book for you.I was really looking for some Platy specific requirements that don't necessarily include breeding, and other than a short paragraph, there wasn't hardly any information tuned especially for Platys. That being said, It's a great starting place for breeding live bearers. The pictures of Guppies & Mollies were lovely.The fish illness discriptions were well written.But you should not use this as your sole source of information on these types of fish.
Mollies
This book was helpful, but did not have as much on Mollies as I hoped. It still is packed with lots of good information.

Soil, Plant, Water & Atmosphere
This book is an attempt to create SPAC Soil, Plant, Atmosphere Continuum. But looks more like a series of lecture notes. Written in clear manner covering aspects of water in soil, plant and atmosphere. Each chapter also has a brief biography of famous person responsible in the topic discusses from Richards to Nielsen,Hertz, Boltzmann etc. Also contained instruments, and anecdote behind them such as how disc permeameter evolved and patented.

A Double Star Book at Last
I liked the observations of various astronomers and the practical knowledge the book offers and the lack of academic theory you get in some books when all you want to do is observe.
Always useful information, but cheaply presented
Having made viewing many of the double stars in the Struve catalogue my annual observing goal for some time, I was happy to hear of this book becoming available. While generally pleased with it, I was disappointed in the final product for several reasons.

One of the best books i've read, period.
gorgeous language and imagery.an amazing adventurer (but the adventures aren't really the point) and incredibly in tune with his foibles, strengths and desires.if i could follow in even 1/100th of his footsteps (literally and metaphorically)...

The Fundamental Life Source of the "Wasteland."
Although I had planned to do so, I had not gotten around to reading this wonderful book until I had some time while I was waiting in an airport recently.I immediately understood the author's reverence for the waters of the desert because I grew up in southwestern Arizona and intimately know some of the places he mentions, as well as others that he does not.The water tanks of the area near and on the Camino del Diablo and the life-giving stream called Sycamore Canyon are well known to me and I am very familiar with tadpole shrimp and some of the other smaller organisms of the tinajas, playa lakes and puddles.Indeed, Craig Childs has caught the not so easy to define wonder that one feels when seeing water in the desert."The Secret Knowledge of Water: Discovering the Essence of the American Desert" voices what many desert rats (as I was when I was younger) would have difficulty saying- that water in the desert is almost a holy entity, a substance that defies definition (despite our knowledge of the chemical structure) because it is manifestly the material of life. very good

Water on the High Plains
I spent my summers in the 1950's as a child on my grandmother's farm in western Kansas.I was always fascinated by the abundant water flowing out of the Caterpillar irrigation pump.It was frigidly cold on a west Kansas 100 degree day.My uncles would put a watermelon in a burlap bag and suspend it under the discharge water from the pump.The water could not have been much more than 60 degrees--or so it seemed.They used the old style irrigation method of that era: unlined ditches and irrigation tubes (first rubber, later aluminum).My older brother and I used to float down those ditches in inner tubes.So, I'm a little sentimental about the Ogallala.

Pumping too Much

This book with 62 pages explains everything you need to know about Pearls. In addition to the knowledge of pearl for a consumer, this book also goes into great details in the trade of pearls. It covers the geographic sources of pearls, the competitive producers, and logical prediction of future market. Spectacular Photography
I don't know what impressed me more, the spectacular photography or the effortless and fascinating way Fred Ward helped me understand pearls.He takes the mystery out of buying pearls. I will not buy pearls again without reviewing this book. ... Read more

Good Info, Poor graphics
The information contained in this booklet is good, but i would like it more if it had a little more graphics to ilustrate with more detail how to build the infraestructure needed to start an operation as well as a checklist of the materials and equipment needed, but in general i would say the booklet is good.

Both this book and Red Claw! are great.
Both this book and the Red Claw book were great! I stayed up really lateperusing them last night. I'm hoping to visit a couple of local farms inthe near future in the hopes to learn more about starting my own crayfishfarm.

not great
Great fron cover an internal cover, but that is where all the fun stops with this book, unfortunately. The rest of the book consists of strangely chosen and bad quality photographs with lots of huge text. I do not recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a great photograhic book on forests - it is very deceiving!

Slightly disappointing.
I bought this book with the expectation there would be many more detailed photographs in it.Though the photos that were there were stunning to be sure, there were too few of them!More photos, maps to said forests, etc. would have caused me to give this a full five stars.

I highly reccomend this guide book for anyone who is into rocks, stones, minerals and gems.
a great handbook but a cheap binding
This is the definitive handbook for the rockhound.Nicely updated with more and better pictures to help in identification of rocks and minerals.Too bad that Peterson's decided to save a nickel on the binding -- my copyof "Rocks and Minerals" was splitting out within a week. Excellent book for serious rock hounds & geology students
This book is arranged according to the mineral classifications, which isgood if you know your minerals.The mineral testing section (flame tests,bead tests, etc.) is not found in very many field guides.As aprofessional Geologist, I would recommend this to other geologists, not torock hounds.The National Audubon Society's field guide is better for rockhounds; there are more photos and they are arranged by color.TheAudubon's minerals are still by classification, but the testing informationis not included. ...
