Trapshooting Secrets - a must read for all trapshooters
Trapshooting Secrets by James Russell is a must read for all trap shooters. It covers the fundamentals with clarity and good accompanying illustrations. If the shooter will read and incorporate the lessons contained, his scores will certainly reach new highs.

The most complete book there is...
Better than the Carmichael books, hands down. If you are a noodle around cyclist...this is not for you. However, if you are willing to read the book, do the tests to determine your fitness, and then develop your plan, and stick to it, it will make you a much better cyclist. I went from the back of the pack, struggle to keep up cyclist(got dropped several times) last year, to a front of the pack, much stronger cyclist this year. A buddy and I put togather a program last fall, and followed it thru over the winter, and now we are much better and stronger. The only other factor in my improvement was probably my Computrainer, which I rode all winter long. The workouts, along with the computrainer did the trick. The only downside to the book is that to get the full value of it you need some way to measure watts, and if you don't have the needed equiptment, you may not get the full benefit.

This is an excellent resource for anyone wishing to get into or improve on already existing road racing skills.

Much better than the competion
I had read all the Chris Carmichael traning books, and found them lacking.There isn't enough detail about what lies behind his programs to allow one to adapt them very well.

When I first read the title, my first thought is "I know this, I've heard it before".

As a naturopath who works with many allergic and environmentally sensitive patients, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.In great depth, Dr. Rapp talks about the multiple factors that are causing so much ill health and suffering in our toxic world. Readers will find the author to be kind, compassionate and practical with "nuts and bolts" tips. The indispensible Tropical Pacific field guide.
Pratt, Bruner, and Dickinson have produced a superb field guide completely covering all the islands of the tropical Pacific from Hawai'i west through Micronesia.This is a true field guide:it gives the field marks of everyspecies, notes problems in identification with special emphasis ondistinguishing similar species, and wastes no space on matters not relatedto identification.(The exception is that Pratt, a significantornithologist as well as an expert in identification, summarizescontroversies in classification whre appropriate.)Read more

A book to appreciate
What an exceptional book this is. I very much enjoy the outdoors--fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking for long stretches of time in the wildest places I can find. If you like similar activities, you may come to love this book as I do.
Interesting
Flipping channels a couple of years ago, I came across a show on PBS about a man building his own cabin, with no power tools, in the Alaskan wilderness.I was mesmorized watching this program.It was one of those shows that stuck with my thoughts and emotions for several days.I was awestruck with some of the things he was making with his hands.I wanted to be there myself.Wanting to get more out of this, I bought the book.I would describe the book as interesting, not riveting.It held my interest and does inspire me to start and complete the task at hand, whatever that may be.To me, the description of the cabin building process was a little too tedious, but the rest of book seemed to flow right along.I'm glad I read the book, but I think this is one of those rare instances where I liked the video better than the book

Easy read, inspirational story
This book is a good read for those who feel inspired by someone who follows their "dreams" (trite, but true!).The book reads like the subject is talking, simplified but descriptive.The Alaskan wilderness plays a big part in the story, although I would've thought that life on your own would have been slightly more difficult - the subject almost makes it seem easy. The idea of someone making a life on their own from nothing (building a house, obtaining food) is tempered somewhat by the fact that the subject had supplies flown in on a regular basis.Still, living on your own for 35+ years is an interesting topic.A nice addition to an "outdoor adventure" library.For those that have seen the companion video, this book may be less important. ... A beautiful book that is NOT for tourists only.
I was excited to read this book after the first reviews were published; it has exceeded even my wildest expectations. The author combines personal experience, graphic arts, poetry, prose and philosophy to describe at last 'why' we travel and 'what' we can expect to gain from travel instead of the 'how' and 'where' to travel. I have already enjoyed past trips more for having compared my experiences and impressions to M. de Botton's musings; I know that I will enjoy future trips more for the same reasons.
This book changed my life
The insight and perspective offered in "The Art of Travel" changed the way I looked at the world.There is something atmospheric and beautiful about the writing here, as opposed to "Proust.." and others.I highly recommend this book.

The Way of Travel
De Botton explores ways to set one's mind to traveling and ends with a view to adopt that mind set to everyday life itself. He uses various famous artists, philosophers, scientists, and critics to assist him with this. At worst De Botton has charm and is cute, at best he encourages one to expand their vision and develop greater insight and interest of the world and in the history of ideas in general. The more familiar I was with who De Botton was talking about the more superficial if not flawed he seemed, the less I knew the more knowledgible he seemed. "Sail on, sail on, sailor..."
Weighing in at a hefty five pounds plus and almost 1000 pages long, this book is as important to your boat as its keel, and almost as dense. First published by Nathaniel Bowditch in 1802 and carried on board every U.S. Navy vessel, THE AMERICAN PRACTICAL NAVIGATOR ("BOWDITCH") is the quintessential seafarer's reference.
I know nothing
I bought this book for my brother who is in the Navy. He said it is required for them to have. He said it has been very helpful. Other then that, I know nothing else about this book.

Perfect
The perfect book for the novice marine aquarium enthusiast.Step by step it tells you how to set up a number of salt water aquariums both small and large with alternative methods of filtration.It also covers which fish do well for the beginner and how they get along with each other.The writing is clear and concise, and when I finished reading and got started with my first tank, there wasn't a single thing I encountered that wasn't covered in the book.Great start for your first tank.Pick this one up.

An ok starter...
This book was an ok starter book, but does not delve into great diagnostic detail. I had to purchase another booh for that.

great for begginers
I think this book is great for beginners. It really teaches you the basics of the hobby. How to enjoy your aqaurium and stick with it, because it is a hobby that many have lost interest and given up on, due to impatience.

Hubris Arrogance and Screamers
This book is right on target whether you are working with a company or with a non-for-profit. I found myself continually underlining relevant ideas.Hammond puts concepts we already know but tend to hide in the back of our minds in simple language that reminds us of how important it is to look at assumptions, accountability and involvement at all levels.She forces us to look at the consequences of speaking up vs not speaking up.I am an advocate (although after reading Hammond's book I am thinking of choosing a word that is less win-lose) of appreciative inquiry methods and also using public involvement in decision making processes and this book is in perfect alignment with both areas. ... Ready, Set, Fix
This book was not only very informative, but also a very great read.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down once I started.Quickly I now have the knowledge I need to continue my work on my project boat.I would recommend this to anyone looking to work with an old boat of any kind.True enough, some tricks here will save you money.

AMajor Contribution to the Scientific World
Caterpillars of Eastern North America is WONDERFUL. I use it all the time. It is my major resource for caterpillar statistics and photos. I rear, photograph and research moth and butterfly adults, larvae and food plants, so this book is a great tool. It is long overdue. I know, because, as a kid, there were no books on the subject and most people thought the only good caterpillar was a dead one. Oh, how I would have appreciated this book back in the 40s. THANK YOU to David Wagner and Princeton University Press for taking on this major contribution to the scientific community.

This is THE caterpillar book to own!
I echo all of the favorable comments in the other reviews. This book has the best photos I've seen in any field guide of any kind.Shows not only the caterpillar but the resulting butterfly or moth - and, so, can also be helpful with moth identification due to the dearth of other publications on moths. This book covers a wide spectrum of caterpillars and should make it easy for anyone to identify them.

At last a Guide that Includes Moth Caterpillars!
Moth caterpillars are more numerous (moth species outnumber butterfly species 10 to one), but books to help you identify these are rare to say the least, and most of those that do cover moths as well as butterflies are both very technical and expensive."Caterpillars of Eastern North America: A Guide to Identification and Natural History" fills the need (for the eastern part of the continent at least) for a reasonably comprehensive guide to both moth and butterfly larvae, with the moths not shortchanged. It can be helpful to a degree in the west as well, but I hope a western guide will soon grace the book stores. We still have no Peterson guide to western moths to match the eastern one!

Lacks a Certain Whatsit
Kolbert's extended magazine article series on climate change (global warming) was slightly interesting.I appreciated that she was able to make her point in 187 pages, but I still felt like I was forcing myself to eat brussel sprouts.

The "envirosceptic" remains a potent force.It's hard to know if that's merely depressing or downright dangerous.Envirosceptics are enthusiastic gardeners: they root about seeking an attractive seed.Once found, the seed is nurtured and pandered to ceaselessly in the hope that it will bear fruit.Such seeds are numbers.They reflect an "unknown" portion of what we understand about our changing world.While the sceptics would like that seed to become a glorious blossom, it always turns out to be a weed.The sceptics are working enclosed in mental greenhouses.Others are outside finding out how the changes are affecting people and places.

"The End of the World" story has been a best seller for thousands of years...
Another left-wing, hippie idiot who dropped out of any sort of real career in 1975 has to sustain himself by writing this anti-technology dystopic rubbish.I'm sure that he has plenty of ideological fellow travelers in Hollywood with whom he should team up to make another version of "12 Monkeys" or "The Fight Club."This is just left-wing, nihilist, anti-human rubbish motivated by a hatred of humanity and mans' productive capacity.
end to the fossil fuel feast
About a month ago i finished this book, The Long Emergency, but James Howard Kunstler. I had read him before in Home from Nowhere: he is a very articulate voice about sprawl with great recognition of not just its environmental impacts but also its spiritual and community impacts.

With so many serious perspectives available on "peak oil", there is no reason to waste time on this screed, which only uses peak oil as a platform to cast aspersions on everything the author hates.

Hands down, the BEST books I will ever own!
I started diving 2 years ago.Up until I ordered these books, I really didn't know what I was seeing.These 3 books are the absolute best books to own if you like diving or boating and live in Florida or the Caribbean.Every page has 3 full color glossy photos of fish, or creatures on it.The photos and info are very comprehensive and detailed.
The Reef Set: The only set of indentification books to have
The Reef Set has been the most helpful set of books I have owned thus far.They have not only helped me in fish, creature, and coral identification for personal use, but also in my school work.They have excellent illustrations and descriptions.I have recommended them to everyone I know!
