Towsley book - Gunsmithing Made Easy
This old timer is crusty but good. He gets down to the level of most of us with his talk and pictures about starting out on the kitchen table to building your own shop. He is not afraid to tell when expensive products can be made or a less costly substitutes do just as well. I am a light gunsmith and gun cleaner and was looking for some help with tools and techniques. In the process I purchased a number of the leading books on gunsmithing. Most of them do not live up to their advertising, this one does.

Outstanding
Somehow each one of capsticks books good better each time. After reading four of his books previous, I do believe that this one is just as good if not better. Although I prefer Death in the long grass, and death in a lonely land, this book is very well written. Your hands sweat until the problem is taken care of. So finally to sum it all up it's another great read, from a great writer.

Sands of Silence
Having read four Chapstick books and loving them (his other tiltes left me excited and wide-eyed) I wasn't overly impressed with Sands of Silence.Although the book is well written, includes quality photos, and some interesting infomation about Africa; I thought it lacked the excitement of Peters other excellent hunting tales.You could do worse than buy this book, but I would encouage you to pick another of Peter's titles.

IF Andy Stanford writes it buy it.
I am completely impressed with Stanford's work.Every book I have read written by him is excellent. If you want to learn about low light tactics, this book covers it all, and you must learn about low light tactics if you are serious about self-defense.Easy to read and understand. Well written. Buy this book.

Good basics on low-light operations
As this book is written by Andy Stanford, I had high expectations towards it. Partially the book was on par with my expectations, but partially I was a little bit disappointed with it. Some names stand out and speak for themselves, Gunsite, Gerber, Colt Andy Stanford, etc. Mr Stanford has done it again. Fight at Night is one of the best texts written on the subject of night fighting. It's very detailed and comprehensive. Not only are the topics of Firearms covered, but also how to use knives, flashlights, and your body as a weapon in the dark.Read more

A MUST have for the Tropical Fish enthusiast
I have several fish books and they offer very little as far as diagnosing the problem goes.This is an excellent book for getting right to the problem without having to second guess and improperly treat your aquarium fish.I love the charts and the pictures.It really simplifies things.It will be my number one book when it comes to keeping my fish healthy and happy.I give it 5 stars plus!

Best fish disease book
This is the most helpful book on fish diseases I have ever owned. It has helped me understand what ogranisms have infected my fish and helped me to find treatments for them. The various charts help narrow down all the possiblities of disease that a fish may have. I recomend this book to any fish hobbist that is interested in finding cures for the diseases that have effected their fish, beginners and advanced. However a basic understanding of biology and microbiology might be helpful while reading this book.

Good, but not great.....
I bought this book thinking it would give me a better idea of diagnosing and treating fish diseases for my African Cichlids. I did not find the descriptions very helpful, nor did I find the lay out of the book very user friendly. I wish I knew of a better one out there to recommend to you, but I cannot. I did find a website out there that does have an excellent interface, with careful searches you should be able to find it easily.Read more

Innovative nymphing explained
I enjoyed Osthoffs comprehensive treatment of agressive nymphing in this book.Osthoff deals with every aspect of his technique from tying to rigging to casting and presentation to fighting and landing fish.The overall organization of the book was fine, but at times it progressed counterintuitively.In any case I got really excited about trying out some the techniques.I think the most valuable idea here is the concept of prospecting - strategizing and moving (yourself as well as the nymph) to maximize opportunities to trigger aggression in fish.Osthoff does an excellent job in explaining his ideas and the illustrations are very effective. If you are like me and spend most of your time dead drifting nymphs andwant to expand your repertoire into active nymphing this is a great book at a great price.

Best and most complete book on nymphing
Rich Osthoff grew up fishing the driftless area of southwest Wisconsin. He spent many years backbackingthe alpine lakes and streams of the Rocky Mountain backcountry. He is as consumate a fly fisherman as there is writing today. In this book Osthoff gives the most relavant and complete account of nymphing as a true sport that I've read. He relates how to rig a fly line for the various strategies an angler can employ. He advises on how much weight to use in a given situation,how to apply weight,how to position weight,remove weight, which leaders,tippet, indicators,line tapers,rods and reels to use. All this inthe first chapter. In subsequent chapters Rich edifies on casting,moving the nymph,downstream strategies,upstream strategies and other practical applications. Osthoff also arguesthe long standing confict over whether nymphing should be considered true fly fishing. I regard "Active Nymphing" as the best and most complete book on nymphing to date. ... The INCOMPLETE Book of Tackle Making
I ran a tackle making facility for three years, so I have a lot of insight into tackle production.I also have taught tackle making to kids at summer camp through the Fish Tech program.
Excellent Resource
Much improved and expanded over 60% from his first edition (Tackle Craft-1974), which was the original "Bible" for do-it-yourself anglers.This edition has the latest info on new tackle designs and materials, including a short chapter on making tools.Also includes an almost overwelming 10 chapters (180 pages) related to rod making instead of just one (60 pages) in his original book.Brings you back to the time when gear and artificial baits were made by the fisherman to fit local conditions, long before there was a tackle shop on every corner.

The Complete Book of Tackle Making
This book is a definite find!Very informative and reasonably priced.Having read and rated other books in this genre as "poor", this book is the exception to the "be-all" and "end-all" generalist book.If you are looking for practical and useful information on the topic of making your own tackle, look no further.Clearly, it is a relief to find an author who doesn't get bogged down in anecdotal story telling about truly boring fish "war stories." ... Southern California (Saltwater Angler's Guide)
This is one of the best books I have seen on the subject of fishing all of Southern California. The author covers all aspects of the hobbie ot just the normal boat, local sportfishing, and long range stuff. He covers the new sport of fly fishing quite well and does a very in depth study of the areas which can be fished by surf, jetty, pier fisherman. His discussions of the prime filhing spots as well as the history of fishing in the Southern California area was very informative. one of the best
Not sure what book 'todd' was reading. This books IS exactly what it states itself to be. The Book of Two Guns is essential reading for anyone on the warrior's path. I have not read a book that more completely welds together mindset, marksmanship and gunhandling. Get it.

Grossly Incomplete
First off, I have nothing against Tiger McKee.I don't know the guy, but he has a good reputation as a competitive target shooter which is probably well deserved.
Outstanding!
You may find that is the only book of it's type you need to purchase. I have a small collection of similar and related tomes, not one of which even begins to cover the subject of gunfighting in such depth. It could reasonably said that it begins where the others leave off yet is not beyond the tyro.

Positively the best book on shooting ever!
This book is definitely number one in my collection. I do not know of any gun book that provides the reader with more information than Mr. McGivern in "Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting". The grammar in the book sometimes made me laugh but every time I reread the book I find something new.

Ed McGivern
I would say that this is the classic of fancy pistol shooting. You won't find people today that would even try the stunts portrayed in this book. The writing style is awful with great run-on sentences and poor organization. However this just adds to the charm of the book if you are a fan of pistoleros. I did not read it from front to back, but read what I was interested in and eventually covered the entire book. A great classic of an era not to be repeated in this careful,wimpy, world of today. The illustrations are fantastic.

never out of date
I first read Fast and fancy revolver Shooting in 1973. Serious revolver buffs recognize Ed McGiverns accomplishment. While his style may not pass an english test,I've never met an English teacher that could shoot like Mr. McGivern. ... Read more

Outstanding
If you are a striped bass fisherman, this book will not let you down.I read it in 2 days.Eccentrics like Billy make life interesting.On a sad note, I can't imagine what it must have been like to fish back in the 60's and 70's before we wiped out the majority of these monster bass.

the very best of its kind
rosenbauer's books are, in my opinion, the very best introductory and intermediate fly fishing books available.this particular book about reading trout streams is an absolulte gem; we learn about different water types, the needs of trout, the relationship between water type and insect activity, etc.

Excellent read
Blakeley's book covers a lot of shooting theory and information along with great stories that were entertaining and helped to demonstrate to me much of the theory he describes.He also punches holes through some common myths that every shooter (hunter and sporting) could do very well without.All in all, a very good reference book.

Now this is good!
I think I've bought and read every single book ever published on custom rod building at this point. Rod Building Guide must now be considered the "Bible" of custom rod building information in text form. It is the most up to date and informative text on the subject of any book I've read, including either of the Clemens books! The author breaks things down into simple steps that anyone can follow, but also adds easy to understand technical reasons for why each step is necessary and how best to perform. The 100+ full color photos don't hurt either!

Great pictures but dont raise monitors by it,...
The pictures are great and some of the info on wild lizards is good, but dont try to use the info in this book to raise a monitor, it is outdated 20+ year old recycled info. For a good book on natural history get King a Greens book or Harold DeIsle book. Get Daniel Bennets new book for captive husbandry on grassland monitors. Excellent
This book is an excellent overview of the "giant" lizards and touches on their biology and husbandry. It is packed full of beautiful photographs, and all the main families are covered: the Varanidae, Helodermatidae, Teiidae, Agamidae, Scincidae, and Iguanidae.I am always amazed by the variability in skin patterns exhibited by lizards, espeically in the Varanus tristis orientalis.You can feel the author's fascination with these marvels of the animal kingdom and he also gives a brief discussion on their vetinary care. I would have hoped he would have had more to say on the "black spot" problem in green iguanasbut does not mention it. A very well written and thorough book.
Giant Lizards provides excellent, easy to understand information for those interested in Monitors, Agamids, Iguinids etc. It's a must have for any serious collector or researcher. ... Read more
