4-0 out of 5 stars very good introduction
i knew nothing about kyudo and found this book to be very helpful.Concise and easy to read without too much mumbo-jumbo.After reading the book, I just might try the sport

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have-And-Read book for Kyudo beginners
Wonderfull book, covers both spiritual and technical aspects of kyudo practice. Dialogs with Onuma-sensei are very very valuable for real understanding of what kyudo is stands for, problem solving section helps a lot for technics. Very well done as a book - exceptional quality. A must have book...

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be known as the Kyudo Bible.
This is one of the best books out on the art of Kyudo. I am currently in Japan teaching and have taken up the practice of Kyudo as a way to learn about Japanese culture. The book covers all areas of interest and is verydetailed with step by step illustrations. My instructor refers to the bookoften to point out my mistakes and highlight my improvement. If you arelearning Kyudo or just want to read about its history and culturalsignificance, then this book is for you. You will not be disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We Need More Northern Whitetail Books
As a northern deer hunter I am delighted with this book. Most of the whitetail deer books out there (at least the managment ones) are based in the south. Ozaga's book rings home with this Michigan guy.5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Choice For Any Deer Hunter
It is not often that one encounters a book that answers long standing questions, especially those that arise from the contradictions found in the popular deer hunting press. There is nothing Gee Whiz about Mr. Ozoga, he tells it like he sees it.When he doesn't know he tells you that too. This book is based on 30 years observation and experimentation on white tails at the Cusino Wildlife Research Station and dispels many of the myths and folklore regarding deer.5-0 out of 5 stars John Ozoga Whitetail Intrigue
I have been studying and hunting Whitetail deer for over 30 years and this book actually contains useful information. Too many times books of this sort are centered on some gimmick to kill the big one. This is not the case with Ozoga's work, you will come away with a deeper understanding of the deer's habits, social order and habitat requirements.Especially for the northern deer herd. For anyone who has an interest in Whitetails this is a must read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The book to have if you work with fish
If you ask anyone who deals with fisheries management, they recommend this book. It's thorough, readable even by those of us who don't have have advanced math degrees, and focuses on the practical consequences ofguessing how many fish there really are in the sea. If you want to knowwhat's behind the curtain when managers declare how many fish you cancatch, this is the book to read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book
I think Sam Curtis' book is excellent for several reasons. First, Curtis provides an extensive examination of mule deer hunting in different togographical regions. He analyzes how to hunt muleys in foothill/mountain regions, on the Great Plains, in coulees, in alpine areas, and elsewhere. Readers will likely find information relevant to their particular hunting region. Second, Curtis draws on both many years of personal experience as well as professional biological research. The combination provides a nice balance between ancedote and objective facts. Third, Curtis explains a number of very practical tactics to use when hunting muleys in a variety of situations. I found his advice on how to pursue spooked mule deer very helpful. Fourth, the book is clearly written. Finally -- and perhaps most importantly -- Curtis communicates not just disparate facts and tactics about mule deer hunting, but *understanding* of mule deer and their environment -- what their habits are, how they respond to varoius weather patterns and dynamics, how they react to hunting pressure, how bucks function in rut and non-rut times, how they use topography, what their core habitat is, and so on. So many hunting books today are largely 'how to' books; they do not take the extra step of communicating a mentality or cognitive strategy about how to think. Curtis does this admirably. I enjoyed this book as much as I did Dwight Schuh's Hunting Open-Country Mule Deer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Great Lakes Steelhead Bible!
This book is truly a masterpiece. The tips and techniques that one can glean from this work are indespensable. If you consider yourself to be an advanced steelheader, than you will, if nothing else, appreciate the fantastic photographs. I do not suggest this book as a bed-time reader however, as the pictures will more than likely make you too excided to sleep (no joke!).

5-0 out of 5 stars A masterful work
This is a "must have" for any Great Lakes Basin Steelhead Fly Fisher. Written from One who has been faced with "4th & goal" and has made the conversion.Matt's underlying theme is that each and every one of us Great Lakes' Steelheaders MUST realize that we have to take care to preserve this awesome privilege that we enjoy. Matt shows how and why the traditional West Coast Methods are very limited in the Great Lakes Basin. He does, indeed cover everything you'll need to know and do to become a more proficient fly fishing steelheader...I promise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dreaming about Steelhead
Steelhead Dreams ranks up there as one the best books about the Great Lakes steelhead fishery. Author Matt Supinski is considered one of the top Great Lakes steelhead guru. In this book he shares decades of knowledge and experience. The book has chapters on mastering the rivers, different times of year, presentations and the top Great Lakes rivers. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Training the right way!!
The Delmar smith methed is a great way to train a hunting bird dog. One of the best things about this book is knowing what is important to your bird dog. Nine out of ten people now days will tell you to start training on birds before pups learn to run. Not Delmar. If you let them be a pup for the first year you will have twice the dog you would have had!! Very informational. Think like a dog to train a dog...

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I used this book 20 years ago to train a Brittany and have now purchased it again for a new dog.The methods and advice are not only unique to Delmar but also highly effective. Not to mention a humorous read.

5-0 out of 5 stars informative and funny
This is my first time owning and training a gun dog. I purchased and read this book before I bought my puppy. I was skeptical but Delmar's methods DO work. This book set the basis for what others would try to teach me later-- and I was able to share information with them as well. My dog performed at an early age as a result of Delmar's advice. You have to be able to go along with the writing style -- which I found quite humorous and much more fun to read than a text book.A great addition to any library!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm not an expert, but
I shot a bit of trap and clay pigeons as a kid and wasn't very good at it.I really liked it though.
5-0 out of 5 stars Havn't found a better book on Sporting clays
I have read 5 sporting clays books and this is the best so far. Includes all that one would hope to find. Well written, easy to follow except for the diagrams which are not linked to the surrounding text.

4-0 out of 5 stars good introduction to shotgunning sports
Chris Batha is a master gun-fitter and experienced competition shotgunner. This book is intended as an introduction to all the major shooting sports -- trap, skeet, and sporting clays -- and covers everything from selecting a gun to pulling the trigger.I found it a useful book for several reasons: it's logical and linear, ie. you get from A to B easily; it has great easy to read illustrations; it's evenly paced and doesn't get bogged down in any particular part of shooting clays.(I bought this book because I had read a couple of articles in magazines he writes for which I had liked -- which were about shotgun loads, chokes, and patterning -- and which were frankly almost too technical for me to pay attention to.)This book doesn't fall into this trap (no pun intended); the counter-argument is, though, that as a great introduction to the shotgunning sports, it also doesn't go deep enough into the areas that I personally would have liked more of.For example, how might I correct for chasing clays and end up missing behind? or, why isn't more choke at greater distance necessarily better? In short, an easy-to-read, well-diagramed introduction to trap, skeet, and sporting clays and 5-stars worth for the complete novice but 4-stars for the intermediate shooter. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for those new to bamboo rod construction.
Good book for those new to bamboo rod construction as I am, with practical step-by-step explainations, recommendations and tips. Good book for the book shelf but its going to spend a fair bit of its time on the workbench in the shed.

4-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive and well done....
This is a truly excellent book on building a bamboo fly rod, and it is possibly the best currently available. The instructions are precise, the photos and drawings are detailed and the author(s) write the book from the standpoint of "We WANT you to suceed.." The truly rank beginnger (me, in other words) will find the list of tools and materials at the beginning of the book a bit daunting, and undoubtbly expensive, but this in a book about building a fine bamboo fly rod, not building a cheap one.A bit more about tapers, (and figuring your own) would have been apprecaited, but all in all, a suberb book for the rod builder, or for those of us who appreicate a bamboo fly rod...

4-0 out of 5 stars A nearly perfect beginners guide
This is an excellent book for those planning to build their first bamboo rod. Each phase of construction is broken down into its essential elements, and the tools and time required to complete the task. The authors make theprocess much less daunting. I had only two criticisms. After reading thechapter on planing I had a few unanswered questions, and I wish there wasmore information on choosing appropriate hardware. These points are minor. If you want to build a bamboo rod, this is the first book to read, and theonly book that many beginners will need. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for the new fly tyer
Nice bench side guide, with great photos of the completed flies and step by step sequences.Good (but brief) general information section covering materials and basic technique. This book is more like a manual than a encyclopedic reference like the Leeson book. The spiral binding makes it very handy to use in the confines of a small bench like mine.I really like this book and would recommend it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Really awsome tale of fishing off the coast of Alaska
This book is a semi-autobiographical tale of the dangers and rewards of fishing in both the Gulf of Alaska and the Bearing Sea.Spike Walker recounts his 8 years of fishing for crab, as well a touches on some of the cod and other fish caught in these cold waters.Walker talks about both the highs (the ability to earn $100,000 in four months, in the early 80's) and the lows (stories of death, missing fishermen, and rampant drug usage).
4-0 out of 5 stars Very well written account of King crab fishing
This is a succint and well-written account of the fishing industry in Alaska. Too often books like this start well and rev you up in the first few pages. But after a while, you get lost in the detail and finish them for the sake of it. Fortunately this book is NOT like that and lives upto the promise it makes in the first few pages. The author sticks to the subject and presents an all-round view of how it really was. There is a good mix of information and action and there is no dull moment.
3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but a bit boring
I am a huge fan of anything Alaska. This book is good, but a bit boring at times. Perhaps a bit too much drama about the characters and not enough about the sport he is partaking in. Good for an easy quick read. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there.
The book is more of a sales catalog then a handloading digest. A lot of the information is from the product sheets you would receive if you purchased the products. Little is provided on actual reloading technique. It would be better to borrow a copy or find one at a library. After you peruse it once you will not need it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Beginners
This is a good introduction to the world of reloading.Being new, I can't tell what other important facts it's missing yet, but it is a good introduction to the basic concepts.I can't picture myself referring back to this book very often, so it might be better to look to your local library or find a friend that has one lying around. The authors gives a lot of historical data of how reloading progressed, which is unnecessary, but could be interesting to some. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for bonefishers
This book is one of the best nonfiction fishing books I've ever read. I'd recommend it to any flyfisher, even those who've never seen a bonefish.Chico Fernandez has an incredible amount of experience and knowledge about bonefish and flyfishing generally, and his writing is clear, interesting, and sometimes hilarious. He is careful to explain why he thinks a certain way about an issue, includes many examples, and isn't afraid to express uncertainty. All these are refreshing qualities in a genre dominated by those who typically issue piles of dogma, seemingly believing themselves to have risen above other ordinary fishing nuts, to the status of gods or celebrities.Chico reminds us it's just fishing, but damn, it's an unbelievably interesting and fun way to spend time.

4-0 out of 5 stars The ones that got away
Linda Greenlaw achieved some measure of fame as a supporting character in the nonfiction book "The Perfect Storm" (and the more fictional movie that followed). Now, Greenlaw tells her own story in "The Hungry Ocean," a less thrilling but equally fascinating tale of a four-week swordfishing run over the Grand Banks.
4-0 out of 5 stars Compelling Read
"The Hungry Ocean" written by Swordfish Captain Linda Greenlaw, details one of her 30 day swordfishing expeditions. Greenlaw describes the preparations she makes before leaving on the trip; the personalities of the men accompanying her on the trip; how she decides where they are going to do the actual fishing; the fishing itself and the equipment used; how she decides when the fishing trip is over; and finally, shows a receipt detailing the money spent on the trip and how much money each fisherman made. Interspersed with the details of this particular trip are chapters called "Mug-Up" with anecdotes of past fishing trips.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book For Hungry Readers
If you're out to sea and someone on your boat dies, don't call the Coast Guard and expect them to come get the guy.Instead, call them and say you have someone who is "in a coma."In that case they will come - otherwise it's your problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars For ocean fisherman
This is a long, detailed book that gives you all the info you could want on living off the ocean.Be advised, there is no fresh water information in the book. That being said, if you want to improve your ability to catch fish at sea, this book has it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fishing Explained
I found this book to be both easy to read and very informative.. I have little to no knowledge of fishing and I found a wealth of practical hands on advice in this book. It seems to cover the subject in depth and lucidly with lots of antedotal stories to illistrate the topic. There are also lots of pictures and diagrams showing and illistrating what is being discussed. At the end of every chapter the authors also give a detailed suggested equipment list to help you get started with hands on application of that type of fishing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Curising In Isolated Parts Of The World? Don't Forget It
I have done quite a bit of crusing, fishing and diving but I always wanted to learn how to clean and prepare the fish myself. The book gave some very good insight into this but I didn't think it was detailed enough. The booksstarts out with the basics of fishing while crusing and then on to everytheme possible: 1.) Fishing under power or sail 2.) Gear and Tackle(excellent drawings for knot tying) 3.)Offshore Trolling 4.)Adrift orAnchored 5.)Dingy Techniques 6.) Walking, Wading and Diving 7.) Tools andNets 8.) Arranging your vessel for fishing 9.) Processing your catch 10.)Medical Considerations for the Crusing Fisher 11.) Getting the most fromyour new crusing skill 12.) A guide to Edible Fish and Invertebrates (would be much better in color as I have not seen many fish come up blackand white) 13.) Seafood recepiesRead more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fishing Tool
I recently read Capt. Kens book and found it to be a great source of info on Kayak fishing. I have never fished out of a yak yet but I know when I do I know I will be prepared with the help of this book. The technical side on how to rig the kayk is the best part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kayak Fishing a must read
I am new to the sport of Kayak Fishing. I found this book to be extremly imformative and a delight to read. With the wealth of information I gained from this book I feel confident in continuing my pursuit of Kayak Fishing. I know it will be a book that I will refer back to many times in the future. It is obvious Ken has a tremendous amount of enthusiasm, knowledge and experience for the sport and is willing to share it with the readers. I am anxiously awaiting his DVD's on Bass Fishing and fishing the flats. Keep up the good work.

3-0 out of 5 stars How can I fish in black and white?
Good information;however, would have been nice to have the pictures in color to better id the fish.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the critical information needed for a saltwater beginner
I have been fresh water fishing for 50+ years and am now retiring to Florida.I needed a quick start on Florida saltwater fishing and this proved to be invaluable.Very well organized to learn about all or onlythe species desired. I went on aback bay flats fishing outing and notonly impressed the other fishermen on the boat with my knowledge of fish, technique and baits, but the guide as well.I am now ordering copies forfriends who have been fishing Florida for several years because they wantedto know where they could get it.Worth more than the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trout Flies: The Tier's Referance
This book is a must on any serious fly tyers desk. The color photos and detailed pictures captures the essence of learning to tye fly's. The patterns and techniques are very refreshing and give good in-site on details and basics. If any one asked me why buy this book it would take more than a thousand words to describe. If you want to learn good techniques, de-mystify some troubles you encounter in everyday tying, learn about the patterns and see how they are tied, then this book is for you. I think this is Dave Hughes best work ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Might be the best book for many tiers
This is an outstanding book on several counts. The quality of the printing itself is high - 480 full color, glossy pages.Frankly, Amazon's price ... for this book is more than reasonable.Read more

A couple of good articles on primer testing but otherwise this book was almost devoid of any data.It was just a few guys sitting around talking.I regret buying it.
