If you get one shotgunning book this is it...
Excellent for a beginner but I am sure that even a seasoned pro will find good insights here. Pay special attention to the many knowledge "nuggets" that abound in this book. I started using a highlighter on these passages... they are that good!

I've been it doing all wrong
I've been hunting dove for years, albeit sparingly each season.This little book definitely showed me the error of my shooting ways, and I'm going to have find some time to shoot some clay pigeons to work on this technique.Don't expect to read this book and think that you can bag a bunch of birds the next day.Bruce Bowlen does a masterful job of describing and explaining this English techique of wing-shooting.It makes perfect sense to use this system for hunting birds, but my body and brain are going to need some time to program it in to where I can shoot this way.For being an average shooter, I'm more confident that I'll be able to bring home quite a few more birds next season, once I get the hang of this technique.

Good advice on developing consistent technique
In this useful little book, Bruce Bowlen lays out the English approach to wing-shooting. Many American shotgunners, he points out, are already comfortable with the rifle and thus try to transfer their rifle shooting skills to the shotgun. This is a mistake, he says. Shotgunning is a different animal altogether, relying on the shooter's natural sense of timing and ability to point. The English approach harnesses these instinctive abilities, combining them with solid, consistent technique to produce successful wing-shooting.

A must own for anyone who loves fly fishing
I have been a fly fisherman (Yes I am female and also not politically correct) since I was around age 8 and after pestering my Dad for days to teach me how to cast a line he relented and a great journey began.As well as a library on the subject of fly fishing, tying flies and trout art. Which is why I am in awe of James Prosek's writing, art and passion for fishing. The trout encyclopedia has arrived!
I was not a big fan of James Prosek's first book. Next to the hyper-realism of Tomelleri, these water color illustrations did not work. Also, several were drawn from photos and were not morphologically (especially morphometrically) correct. So what? some may say.

For my wife
Last summer i introduced my wife to fly fishing. I decided she needed a guide to knots. I chose this one. She is using it. but i found myself consulting it from time to time so i got myself one as well.

Not waterproof!!!!!

I've read this book twice and refer to it regularly.Gary LoFontaine's dedication to the scientific method, insatiable curiosity, and love of fly fishing make this book an indispensable resource.

Detail, detail, detail!No substitute for this book!
Gary LaFontaine died this year.A great shame...but he has left behind a body of work that enriches us all. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING.
This book is for anyone who wants to understand better why certain patterns work one day and not the next.For all of those died in the wool dry fly fisherman, read this book and you will start fishing below the surface, where most of a trout's diet is taken.This is as much a scientific work as it is a manual on how to take more fish more often. The only negative aspect of this book is that it focuses on the caddis fly (although Mayflies are mentioned).A similar work on Mayflies is needed.All in all though, this is the "Bible" that should be on all of our shelves. ... Pretty good.
I am a novice angler and I thought this book might help a bit. And I believe that it did. It definitely kept my attention and I did learn a few things, but there's not a lot of specifics. It's pretty basic fishing. I was hoping to learn a bit more about catfish, their habits, and how to catch them. But that info was not to be found. Overall I would recommend this book I'm sure you will learn something and it's definitely worth the price, but when you're done reading it you'll probably want something more in depth.

Good read
This book was a very enjoyable read, and definilty worth the price.I think it's a little light on information (it is a short book), so if you want a fishing encyclopedia, don't get this one. But if you want an entertaining book to read while you can't be fishing, this is it.

The book every fisher should own
Two things jumped at me the moment I began to read"What Fish Don't Want You to Know " The Author Frank P. Baron not only knows the in and out of fishing he is also passionate about it. The other thing that jumped at me is that the book is written in an easy to understand language and with humour. Unlike many other books covering this subject, this book is actually very entertaining and full of common sense wisdom that only can come from years of fishing.

Everthing you need to know about worms and composting
As a self reliant or self sufficiency person who tries to grow more and more of their own food every year this book is valuable for a variety of reasons.First off there are more than one type of garden worm for composting and garden purposes, which this book discusses in detail. As an example she writes of Red Wigglers (Eisenia fetida) that the common names are Tiger worm, Garlic worm, Manure worm, Brandling worm. That they are rust colouredwith a membrane between each segment, and are about three inches in length.They live a few inches below the soil and are considered a shallow dweller.They prefer very rich compost, manure piles and decaying plant and animal material. And temperatures between 59 and 77 degrees and have a cocoon hatching period of between 35 and 70 days depending on conditions. The author also notes it is an excellent vermicomposting worm because it can process large amounts of organic matter.
Everything worms
This is an excellent book for a beginner in vermicomposting as well as someone with an established bin.It contains everything you could possibly need to know--information on different worm species, kinds of bins, problem shooting, starting a worm business, as well as the strange and bizzare such as worm poetry, recipes, and using worms in art!I have a small collection of worm books as well as an established bin, and I still find myself referring to the book frequently.My worms are doing so well I've started providing bins for friends and family...along with a copy of this book!

A highly recommended finish for a great series of books
This final volume ( # 3 ) of this series has very useful instructional information concerning bow making tools, take down ( two piece ) bows, stone age bows, stone points ( knapping ), and making arrows. Bow designs from many cultures around the world are examined and explained in detail.

Everything you need to know about your 10/22
This book has got about everything you want to know about Ruger 10/22's. It is designed more for the Ruger owner who is new to the rifle or modification market, rather than the individual who has already modified a few rifles or who has gunsmithing experience. Although I do own three 10/22's, one of which is called FrankenRuger because the only original part left is the receiver, I found the book to be very informative. Chapter 4 on Factory Models and chapter 13, Sources For Shoppers are excellent.

Moon Hunting Re-Defined
You will forever view your hunting by the moon phases in a different light after reading this book.You will also examine and very likely modify your hunting to improve and increase your harvest successes.Charlie Alsheimer backs up his philosophies and strategies with experience and research.It is not just based on random opinions and limited field experience.This is a "must read" for the serious deer hunter!

It has changed when I hunt
For years I chased whitetails during rifle season only hoping that the rut would be on. It rarely was so I picked up bowhunting to extend my season and give me a better chance of catching the rut. I was still sitting in a tree wait for the rut to start. Mr. Alsheimer's insights have helped me greatly. I now can request vacation time to coincide with the rut, scout an area, set up a stand, and be sitting pretty. The past two years have been great thanks to Mr. Alsheimer's help

A real gem among rhinestones
Let's just cut to the chase: there are a lot of books out there by self-proclaimed "experts" on how to hunt the wily whitetail. Most of them are just re-hashed information that any serious deerhunter already knows (or should). The number of really interesting and innovative books on this subject is low. Read more

Great Book!

Fly Fishing for Dummies not all that great
This book is an OK overview of the sport but there are much better books out there.Fly Fishing (A Trailside Guide) by John Merwin is one.Merwin's book has extrememly colorful pictures that get you excited about fishing and the illustrations make it very easy to learn somewhat complicated knots.Fly Fishing for Dummies doesn't do a horrible job of explaining things but different books I've read do a much better job making it easier to learn and much more enjoyable.

Falls short for beginners
I'm a big fan of the Dummies series but found this one very disappointing. The author goes into excruciating detail about some peripheral parts of fly fishing, while completely glancing over some of the essentials.
This 'for Dummies' book misses the mark for dummies
I liked the book but found it to be a 'miss' on illustrations and specifics.For a Dummies book I expected there to be the maximum amount of examples on how to set up a new rod, real and leaders and tippets.

Best in Class
I have read hundreds of hunting books, and rate this the most useful mule deer hunting book available.This book cotains more practical information that you can (and will) actually use than most hunting books on any species.Many of the techniques described in this book will work on any western or mountain game.The book is written in a very easy to read style and is entertaining as well as informative.

kRoy Dunlap Gunsmithing
This book is okay. I bought it after buying several others and it has added to my knowledge about some guns and techniques. Not a bad book at all but it could use some better and more frequent illustrations in my book.

one of the best books on this subject
I agree with other reviews that this book is a bit outdated looking at subjects like modern semi- and full-automatics. But this book is very well written indeed and a must have without a doubt for every learning and experienced gunsmith and or smaal arms designer. I have a lot of books on this subjects and this one one of the very best on my shelf. Absolutely advisable!

Elementary Larry Wise
An excellent introductory book but if you have been shooting for some time, you might find it too elementary. Seventy-eight pages of this book is a printed copy of the NAA or NFAA constitution and by-laws which are useless if you do not shoot in USA and also can be lifted off the internet. That said, Larry Wise is Larry Wise and he gives pieces of priceless advice for beginners

The book Bow & Arrow is an excellent book for all levels of archers.It has a large variety of step-by-step photographs emphasizing the key skills of the sport.It also covers the equipment, techniques, and rules for all kinds of types of archery competition rounds.Practice drills are shown step-by-step to help one learn quickly.It has many sections on choosing a bow to fit you, selecting and assembling arrows, adjusting arrow rests, installing accessory equipment, safety rules, form basics, bow tuning, and target, field, and unmarked-distance archery.Many pictures and diagrams help explain the material and its procedures.All the material is explained and is very simple to understand for even the archery illiterate.

A hunter, a humanitarian, a lover of nature
A lot of tigers and leopards die in this book.If you belong to PETA, then, this isn't the book for you.Jim Corbett begins with the premise that tigers and leopards who kill humans must be killed.
Man eaters of Kumaon review
Man eaters of Kumaon is a fantastic book about hunting Royal Bengal tigers in the Indian Himilaya. The author describes his thrilling hunts with great descriptive passages and when he hunts, he does so with great care and passion. In fact he shot the Pipil Pani tiger because he was eating sheep, goats, and other small domestic animals. He shot the Bachelor of Powlghar because he had attacked one of his freinds. The bachelor of Powlghar was recorded as being one of the largest Bengal tigers ever, he was ten foot seven inches over curves!
A classic
The author could describe each scene so well you thought you were there in his shoes. He describes nature like no other. I bought this book used for $0.25 , I wasn't expecting much - it is for sure one of the best books I have ever read.
