Good for bringing new dogs into your family. A must to read!

Getting ready for baby
This book was recommended at a veterinary conference in Kansas City ... I work at a small animal hospital, and I was looking for a book to recommend to our clients when they are preparing for a new baby.I was hoping for more information, however, about problems that parents should expect between their child and the dog as the child grows up.This book presents realistic training ideas and other options (rehoming, euthanasia) for dogs that just should not be around kids, and also suggests when the owner should seek professional help.

Very good book!
We bought this to help us train our two newly rescued rat terriers to accept our grandchildren.They had some very good advice on introducing dogs to children, etc. that we have already used. Hopefully, by the time they visit, they will be more socialized to children.

Rip-off
This is absolute offal. Not only is it a rip-off of a GOOD idea, it's not even a good rip-off.
Cute, but not funny.
I bought this and Bad Cats the other day, and I have to say Bad Cats was far better. Bad Dogs is cute, but a little stupid. Almost all of the photos are dogs wearing costumes. Bad Dogs? No, Bad OWNERS. Get Bad Cats instead.

Good Book!!!
First of all I have to say the book is defiently worth the money. It dosent have a ton of funny parts but the parts it does have are enough to make you and/or a friend crack up. The only problems are that it dosent have many hilarious pages and its not as good as bad cat. If youre looking for book that will make you laugh then get bad dog and bad cat but if you have to decide which one get bad cat, although bad dog is good enough to buy. ... Read more

Expert Treatise Worthy of Review by Experts & Attorneys
I particularly recommend this book for it's Chapter 9: Lockwood, Randall, The ethology and epidemiology of canine aggression.
Excellent information painfully presented

A Serious Must for Serious Dog People
First published in 1995, nothing else as comprehensive and as carefully researched on canine behavior and development has been published.For the general reader, the writing style may be a bit dry; however, because each chapter has different authors, the writing style, while basically academic and fact driven, varies. Interesting themed art book
This book features photos of artworks from many time periods showing dogs.Most of the artworks are realistic in style.Towards the end, there are a few more modern paintings.I wish the author would have included more modern paintings.Anyway, this is a great book to introduce young children to art appreciation. ... Two books rather than one?
The author clearly loves his work, the dogs and the outdoors and for much of this book we are entertained with his adventures.The rest of the book concentrates (loosely) on training your dog. I found it to lack the detail and layout to use as a training manual. Although it is a fine read I would prefer to see more of a reference manual and read the anectdotes with a cognac at the end of the day.

The Labrador Shooting Dog
If you like stories then this is the book for you.Gould does not discuss training until you are half way through the book. The training starts with introducing the dog to the field and the waist cord.You will do better to look elsewhere for more in depth training information, especially if you need to start training at the basic level of come, sit and stay.I would recomend "Game Dog" by Wolters.He is precise and compasionate in his training techniques.

One good dog
I have got the chance to meet the author myself as for my uncle helped Mike train his dogs and guided bird hunts in Northern Idaho and Colorado. I have got to read all of Mikes books and they are outstanding and can be seen in his view of life and nature. I have worked with a few of Mikes pups and own one today, Spring. All of these dogs are outstanding in attitude and loving passion. Mikes views on training are very humane and done in a loving manner. Mike has profected the use of love to train. not as smart as they think
Although they think they know it all they neglected to include a breed that was part of early americana,the Catahoula Leopard dog.This breed was brought over by De Soto to control the indians.It is the earliest breed of american dogs.They are a dog well known to Louisiana,Texas ,Okahoma.They are super intellegent and primarily herding dogs.

For true dog lovers..
This book is on the one hand educational, but also hilarious.Its the kind of book you can pick up and put down, reading whenever you have time.Its full of facts and fun.If you truly love dogs like I do, you will truly love this book!

One of the best hound health guide books!
This is one of the best and aptly name guidebooks offering credible advise on health, nutrition, common problems and prevention for hounds.Written by a writer-turned-vet, the book did exactly what the author had set out to do: "To save people from making unnecessary trips to the vet, and yet rush them in when their dogs really needed to be there".
All Here!
Anything and everything you would want to know about the health of your pet. Use this book when going to the vet to educate yourself about the medications and issues the vet addresses. Determine if those tests are really necessary. Find out what medications are most often used for various ailments. This really is the definitive guide.

Simply the BEST!
Excellent book, answers all problems and potential problems of all breeds, from puppies to senior dogs... Betsy Brevitz has all quality to be an excellent writer as well as a doctor, most informative dog health book I've ever read, but still light, fun and easy to read even for dummies (like me), who doesn't understand many hospital's vocabularies... a MUST BUY for a dog owner, dogs owner or even a breeder! ... Wolves are beautiful creatures; this is a beautiful book.
This book is my second literary experience with Helen Thayer and her dog Charlie following her 2002 book "Polar Dream," in which the pair join together as Ms. Thayer became the first woman (and oldest person at 50) to walk and ski solo (not counting Charlie) to the Magnetic North Pole. In this adventure her husband Bill joins the pair as they spend a year living with wolves in the wild above the Arctic Circle.It's easy to see why the National Geographic Society/National Public Radio has named Ms. Thayer one of the great explorers of the 20th Century.Her stamina and perseverance are phenomenal.The trio infiltrates the Richardson Mountains in Canada's Yukon Territory in search of the greatest villains in all of children's literature.After struggling through most difficult terrains, they come upon a family of wolves and spend months living in a tent within the animals' sight studying the social interplay of these beasts.Completing this phase of their adventure, they sadly leave this family and trek further north into the shifting and dangerous ice of Beaufort Sea to discover the wintertime interplay between wolves and polar bears, considered by many to be the most dangerous of all wild animals.After this near-death adventure, they ski back to the Mackenzie Delta and set up housekeeping next to another group of wolves. The best wolfie book
I have had wolfhounds for nearly 20 years. In all that time, and with all the books that I've looked at both breed specific and just 'doggy' this is the best for the wolfhound owner. Theillustrations are great and there is an enormous amount of material.
Excellent
I can't say enough good things about this book.We purchased this book to prepare us for the Irish Wolfhound we hoped we would get one day.Thankfully we found a wonderful breeder and we have a new puppy.This book was great for getting us ready to bring her home as well as produce questions to ask the breeder.
Not just for display
Although this oversize book has the wonderful photographs and fascinating informational tidbits of a typical coffee-table volume, it offers more: practical instructions for choosing and raising a puppy and owning a hound.The comprehensive medical discussions are particularly important for managing the rather fragile health of these magnificent companion dogs.

Next Best Thing to Being There
Dr. Halfpenny delves into difficult and complicated issues revolving around the wolf reintroduction and subsequent survival.He makes the science involved easy to understand and is patient with the reader.Dr. Halfpenny continously makes the reader understand these are wild animals and should be treated and studied that way. But he also allows for the fact that people are interested.
Re-introduction Triumph.
When the introduction of Wolves into Yellowstone National Park first occured in 1995/96 many books appeared celebrating and philosophizing the environmental and social effects of that success. Now, eight years later comes this wonderful book that not only looks at the success of the Yellowstone experiment, but also at those pioneering Wolves, the actual animals who braved that unknown scientific test to see if, after 80 years, the Wolf could again be a part of the Yellowstone ecosystem. Not the only African Wild Dog book
No, this is NOT the only book on the African Wild Dog, although yes it is a good one and well worth the money.I'd have to also recommend the one by McNutt, I believe it's called Dispelling the Myths of the African Wild Dog.McNutt has been studying these misunderstood dogs for many many years, and is one of the leading researchers.His book has lots of information about a particular pack he was studying, plus lots of info on the dogs in general, and has GREAT photos...some of the best AWD pictures I've seen.

This is THE book on wild dogs.
That's not just a compliment. It's a literal fact. There is no other book dedicated to wild dogs. Not in print. Probably not at all. And if we're to be "stuck" with just one publication, it is sheer pleasure to be stuck with this one. Highly readable, engaging, informative... robust science, excellent documentation, interesting and mind-expanding explanations and statistics... Worth the read
I found this book very useful especially how to warm your dogs up before a competition and also before training also there is a fair amount of information about the dogs structure which helps explain why some dogs can do some things and others can't.

The most comprehensive, brilliantly conceived work to date.

A must-read for serious obedience competitors!
This is a must-read for trainers who want to show their dogs in competition. While Janet focuses on obedience competition, any serious competitor will enjoy this book.Janet does an excellent (and often humorous) job of explaining how to use food in training, bypassing the usual pitfalls. This is the best that I have seen on the subject.Read more

True story and entertaining
I liked this book so much and it stuck with me so when I first read it - the many comments of his "wee bitch" and naming her Gael that my Gael was named from this book. Border collie enthusiasts who see just names on the papers of their dogs may well see some of those names in here. Wonderful people and dogs in real life and an enjoyable read of working dogs, both trials and every day dogs, in Scotland. Loved the book...as someone else mentioned if you're not a fan of border collies you might not find it quite as engaging. Recommended reading for border collie owners!!

Wonderfully enjoyable and marvelously insightful!
A Border Collie owner, I could hardly wait to read this book, and the author's other books, Nop's Trials and Nop's Hope.A one-time visitor to Scotland who can't wait to go back, I eagerly looked forward to this book.And, I was not in the least bit disappointed on either count!The author's style is easy-going and readable, with a subtle humor throughout.His images are brilliant and I just felt like I was present for each scene that he wrote and a part of the action.Someone who has no interest in the working Border Collie might find the book dull.So also might someone who is not particularly interested in the very different lifestyle of the shepherd of Scotland.But for us who love the working Border Collie and find the life of the Scottish shepherd and his/her dog intriguing, this is an absolutely must-read book, over and over again!

Perfect Photo and Story Book For Labrador People!
For someone like me who has spent countless hours, days and weeks in the company of four or more Labrador Retrievers, this book is a hoot. It takes light-hearted look at Labradors, sharing a bounty of beautiful photographs of man's best friends with us, and looking at the personality traits and character qualities that make them the single most popular breed in America today. Labs are among the most social of canines, yet they are remarkably calm and pacific once they know you. Which isn't to deny the fact that they are very active and energetic, and that anyone who lives with one needs to ensure the dog and he or she spend sopme time outside in vigorous play every day. But as the author tells us, we love labradors because they seem to represent the best and most admirable qualities we happen to admire. Dog photos...
Ask any photography instructor, and he will say, "I don't want to see any puppy and kitty pictures!" How wrong they are. Dale does a great job of presenting the working Lab in everyday situations, from the field trial to the duck blind and the upland field, and he does it with a great sense of humor. ... hmmm ...
I was very much taken by the cover shot when I first saw this book on Amazon, the reviews too, seemed rather encouraging ... when the book arrived, I was expecting the rest of the photographs to be of similar or better quality ... am a little disappointed.Read more

Every Fox Can Be Found Between These Covers!
Combine stunning photographs with beautifully written, well researched and concise text and you have The World of the Fox; this book is a MUST HAVE for any fox enthusiast, artist or admirer.For as much information on foxes as I have gathered over the years, this is by far and away my absolute favorite resource for practical information on specifics of the various vulpine (and alopex) spiecies.

An entertaining look at a creature often forgotten
Being somewhat of a fox afficianado myself, I've found how difficult it is to get any decent reference materials on these creatures.It seems that their slyness in nature has also led to their escaping the eye of the literary world, except as characters in children's books.(An alternate theory, which I firmly believe in, is that it's all just a conspiracy by the wolves.)This book, however, succeeds in capturing much of the beauty of these animals while also explaining much of the rigorous work that goes into their day to day lives.For anyone who is truly interested in the wonders of this oft-neglected creature, this is one of the best books for a general overview of their lives ... Great report for a great project.
I enjoyed "Decade of the Wolf" both for the information given on the reintroduction of gray wolves to Yellowstone as for the manner in which it is written. The first-person delivery of the tale is quite engaging and readable. However I would have liked to see more hard data, especially on the dramatic changes brought to Yellowstone ecosystems as a result of the reintroduction of the wolf.

Decade of the Wolf
Having taken my family to view the wolves on a -22 degree day in the Lamar Valley, reading the book by Smith and Ferguson was like putting all the pieces together in being able to better understand what the introduction of the Yellowstone Wolves have meant. If one gets the chance to hear either of the authors in person, be sure and make the time. For their knowledge and frankness will remain in your mind forever, and impact how we all think about these past 10 years! Its a must read for adults and kids......not to mention the trip in Yellowstone!

Realistic View of the Life of a Reintroduced Wolf
I have followed the wolf reintroduction project with great interest since the very beginning.After many trips to Yellowstone and time spent hiking and camping in the backcountry of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem since the wolf reintroduction; I have yet to see a wolf in the wild.However, hearing them howl in the woods at night is enough to give a person goosebumps.Just knowing they are out there is enough for me.
