good wetland text
Overall, this is a very good text on wetlands (for students and professionals both).However, I personally feel that a entire chapter could be devoted to wetland soils and wish that this book gave a better presentation of wetland soils.Furthermore, a great deal of research has been performed in Boreal wetlands and Boreal Prairie wetlands of Canada yet the Canadian literature is somewhat lacking in this text.Its still the best option out there for professors.

There is no better book for learning about wetlands that I have found.Many students find hydrology difficult, but this book lays this critical process out clearly, with excellent illustrations and diagrams.
The Wetlands Textbook
I first picked this book up to consider a career as a wetland scientist (among other things) and instantly dove into the heaps of information provided. It is well written and easy to read with nicely labelled sections. I found that it had all sorts of information on the subject. It is highly useful.Read more

Wetland Indicators by R.W. Tiner
This book is very well put together and provides a wealth of information on Wetland Indicators.If you are just learning about wetlands, what is in them, and how to identify different ones, then this book will be GREAT for you!

Pond and Brook A guide to Nature in Freshwater Environments
Great ecology guide to aquatic life. It takes you from the chemistry of water through a section on glaciers and into life in a pond, stream, and a wetland. Great guide for elementary/middle school teachers and would make a great text for a high school course.

Splendid photography
Pantanal - just one word that makes you itch to see for yourself the wonders of this magical wetland in the heart of Brazil! Sweet!
This is a really great book. It explains way more then you would expect for a field guide. It goes in depth about each plant, animals that depend on them and other interesting tidbits that you wont find in any other guide.The awsome illustrations are done so beautifully and true to life no one should have any problems idtentifying plants on the trail. They also truly give this book a nice touch.It's like a book of old documenting new discoveries!

Great book!
This is a must have book if you live in areas with swamps/bogs.Its so accurate I'm just amazed.It is also very easy to use.It has drawings and it talks not only about id of the plants but also their "lifestyle" (e.g. how they reproduce, various ideosyncasies of the plants, insects that are associated etc.)Each plant also has a short section on lore which adds a nice bit of history.I really like the book

Just what I was looking for!
For those people who already kind of know their way around the forest, and are more interested in what they are going to see ASSOCIATED with the plants they see than what an Audobon book says, this is a naturalist's dream come true!Read more

An excellently titled book
This is a great introduction to wetlands ecosystems! This book begins with an introduction to what a wetland ecosystem is and how it works, giving examples of wetlands in various parts of the US. Each type of wetland ecosystem is presented with a list of plants and fungi found there described in moderate detail, including their niche in the ecosystem. Plants and fungi that may have special interest to the reader are examined in more detail at the end of this section. This book also covers the year-round changes in this ecosystem, tips on observation, specimen collection, and on keeping a nature journal. A section at the end of the book offers various activities and investigations that the reader may find interesting and helpful in understanding more about this threatened ecosystem.Read more

A great wake-up call
Incredibly relevant at this time.Being from Louisiana, I felt it was important for me to read this.And I recommend this as essential reading for anyone affected by Hurricane Katrina.The chapter specifically about New Orleans was so creepy that I re-read it once I was done.The book is written very matter-of-factly and uses so many agency names and acronyms that it sometimes gets bogged down in itself.But it still reads well, and is so well researched, that this is more than compensation.Would love to read a follow-up. ...
