5-0 out of 5 stars Very Very cool book
My son loves dinosaurs but had outgrown alot of the kids books out there. This is a great book for older kids and adults will like it too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great eye candy for your inner child, and for your other children if you decide to share
This book produced much glee in my house the day it arrived, gasps of joy and amazement, awe and delight. One of these days I'll let my kids look at it, too. I enjoyed it so much that I promptly bought Sabuda's "Alice in Wonderland," "The Wizard of Oz," and another Encylopedia Prehistorica volume, "Sharks And Other Sea Monsters." They're all sensational.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome gift for kids and adults alike!
This book is just simply amazing. When you open each page you cannot stop but to wonder how on earth do they figure out how to not only design and engineer its illustrations but also how to implement it and still manage to sell it at a reasonable price. The content is very informative and educational. Definitely something that one can re-read with interest for many years. It also works great as a reference book for children and it could very easily be helpful for one of their school projects. Speaking of school, instead of getting a mug as an appreciation book for your kid's school teacher, consider offering this book. It is money well spent. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to chapter books for pre-k age
We actually picked up a four of the Magic Tree House books to give chapter books a try with our 4 year old. He absolutely is enthralled with these. We have already returned to the book store twice for a total of 8 more and I'm sure we will be going back for more.
4-0 out of 5 stars Son received as a b-day present
When he got the first boxed set for his birthday, he wasn't too enthused by it. Up to that point, him reading on his own was like trying to pull teeth. So I bribed him by saying for every book he read, I would give him a dollar.
5-0 out of 5 stars Magic Tree House (Volumes 1-4)
This was a gift for my granddaughter. My daughter writes: "Suspenseful . . . interesting.Erin can't wait for each chapter. With other books she falls asleep while I read;with these books she asks me to stop so she doesn't miss anything. We are reading no. 5 'Night of the Ninjas' and recently saw a samari suit in the museum (where Andy Warhol is showing) and there are Samari in this book.As a parent I wish there was a little more history in each book, but I think they are age appropriate."

Editorial Review

"How does a dinosaur say good night when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about? Does a dinosaur stomp his feet on the floor and shout: 'I want to hear one book more!'? DOES A DINOSAUR ROAR?" Most certainly not. Dinosaurs give their mommies and daddies big hugs and kisses, tuck their tales in, and whisper "Good night!"Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite in our house!
My son got this book and the matching stuffed dinosaur when he was 2. I think that was the start of his dinosaur obsession! :) We love this book and a year later we still read it all the time. He has the whole book memorized and can "read" it to us. We have started to acquire some of the other "How Do Dinosaur" books but this will probably always be the favorite. It's a great book!! We love the pictures and the story!!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love It!
How could this book not recieve 5 stars? My first encounter I had with this book was at a daycare I worked at for the 2 year olds and they always requested it and loved it. Of course after reading it so many times it became memorized and they would help by shouting out words here and there. I loved it so much I made it a point to get it for my daughter and she has the same reaction. We read it every night and she knows the story, acting it out and recalling parts here and there. I got the paper back because it was cheaper but we'll be getting the hard back soon due to so much use. Definitely a title that should be included in your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars We read this book every night
My 3 year old son absolutely loves this book. We have to read it every night at bed time, he has it memorized for the most part so he "reads" along with me while I am reading it to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars (young) Man V. Dinosaur (who bakes with aplomb)
It would take a human being with the sense of humor of a bowl of moldy tapioca not to find "Edwina: The Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She Was Extinct" one of the funniest picture books of the year.I mean, I resisted reviewing it.Mo Willems needs no introduction any longer. His misleadingly simple style is what it is, as it is, as it shall be evermore.Basically, he does not need my help promoting his books. That doesn't mean, though, that it's not fun to do.Now the man in question has tried his hand on the standard large-animal-who's-friends-with-kids genre. You can keep you Cliffords and your Dannys with their dinosaurs, though.Color me an Edwina fan through and through (and that goes double for her chocolate chip cookies).
4-0 out of 5 stars Everybody loves Edwina...
Everybody in town loves Edwina, the dinosaur. And why wouldn't they? She's helpful and charming and winsome and makes great chocolate chip cookies. But smarty-pants Reginald von Hoobie-Doobie is very irritated that nobody -- least of all Edwina herself -- realizes that dinosaurs are extinct. And so he sets out to disprove Edwina's existence. While this book isn't as silly as the Pigeon series or Knuffle Bunny, "Edwina" is a solid read-aloud that will be enjoyed by children ages 4-6. And adults will appreciate the subtle humor in Willem's illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love Mo Willems!
As always Willems is amazing!I haven't read a book of his yet that has dissapointed me, there is always humour and a certain degree of whimsy to his books. Here the story is about one boy who is determined to convince the rest of the world that their beloved Edwina the Dinosaur is supposed to be extinct.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Dinosaur Lovers.
My son loves these books. He laughs and giggles the whole way through. The fact that she puts all the names of the dinosaurs hidden in the pictures for the parents to see is great. It gives me an answer for the inevitable "what kind is that one, mom?"
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book!

An excellent book. My son loves it. He has the other 3-4 books that has been written by Jane Yolen and falls within the same dinosaur theme.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your kids like dinosaurs...
I love this book. It is a book that my 2 year old is interested in while I am slipping some numbers education in. Besides the fact that it has dinosaurs...

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun for Your Little Dinosaur
HOW DO DINOSAURS COUNT TO TEN not only provides a way for very young children to learn to count. It also feeds into the way a kid thinks. The various dinosaurs who do the counting have human mons who cheer them on to learn.Kids will identify with the concept.A child can be a dinosaur today, and his Mom can be a person. Also Mom stays in the background making the dinosaur/child the center of attention, providing a supportive 'I can do it myself' climate. While cartoonish and playful, the pictures represent dinosaurs accurately enough to recognize them. T. Rex helps with the counting, as does Ptaradactyl, and a few others I can't spell or pronounce. But as I've learned from my 5 year-old-neighbor, the kids should be have no trouble informing the adults in their lives which dion is who.As the dinosaurs count, they play with the toys they are counting, which adds to the fun.The books themselves are sturdy and will withstand rough handling by really little tykes. They're also a convenient size for toddlers to hold.Anybody who has a junior dinosaur fan around the house should look at HOW DO DIONSAURS COUNT TO TEN. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Table Manners & Great Dinosaurs
My boys and I love Yolen's How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? so of course, we had to get this book.I have a four year old and an 18 month old. They both love the funny pictures and the subject matter.I like that I get to talk to my older son about table manners when we read this book.I did have to do some research to learn how to pronounce some of the names of the dinosaurs (ie. quetzalcoatlus) but that's OK-- my four year old now thinks I'm a dino expert.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for young dino lovers
This series is great! I have a 2-year-old nephew who loves dinosaurs right now. This was an entertaining book for the both of us.

1-0 out of 5 stars Encourages Unhealthy Eating Habits
With a childhood obesity epidemic in the United States, the last thing we need is a book that teaches kids to clean up their plates.Though this series of books is generally fantastic, I am terribly disappointed with the eating habits this particular book seeks to instill. Many prominent table problems among toddlers and young children are ignored.Healthy eating and eating until one is full should also be covered, but the author is completely oblivious to modern medical opinions on nutrition and diet.I am dumping this book ASAP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Way to Introduce World History to Your Kindergartner!
Our child was not satisfied with the Usborne Book "Living Long Ago" which ispart of our history homeschooling curriculum. To be quite honest neither was I. The book was dull in comparison to most Usborne books. I began to search for an alternative which would be fun while stimulating her interest in world history. At this point she was fascinated with cavemen and dinosaurs. I literally stumbled onto the Magic Tree House books at our library. I had heard of them but did not know what they were about. After looking at the series I decided this would be a fun way of studying world history, so I checked out "Dinosaurs Before Dark". The book was the hit of our homeschooling year! We decided to utilize the Magic Tree House website and Research Guides to complete our world history curriculum. This book series would make a fantastic television series like "The Magic School Bus". We have utilized other books written by Mary Pope Osborne in our homeschool and have enjoyed reading them. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dinosaurs and the Magic School Bus
I bought this book for my son's 5th birthday. He loves the Magic School Bus series and he loves Dinosaurs. This was the perfect gift for him. We have read it a few times already. It does not read as smooth as the other books in the series, but it keeps his interest and makes him want to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the biggest meat eater. From vincent
Acually the biggest carnivore was giganotosaurus(gig-a-no-toe-sau-rus)with runners up being carcharodontosaurus(car-car-o-don-to-sau-rus),spinosaurus (the star from Jurrasic Park III)Then Tyrannosaurus rex (t-rex).My personal favorites: Velociraptor(veh-loss-i-rap-tor, ceratosaurus (cer-at-o-sau-rus),oviraptor (o-vi-rap-tor),and ornitholestes (or-nith-o-les-tees).

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful educational book for a variety of ages!
I wasn't familiar with the Magic School Bus series until I visited my family this past weekend--my 3-year old niece absolutely loved this book!Unconventional teacher Mrs. Frizzle takes her students on an archeological dig, but she then decides to give them a real look at dinosaurs by loading them onto her magic school bus and traveling back in time. The main body of the story is only about 5 lines per page, making the book appropriate for reading to younger children, but there is also a wealth of additional information included in surrounding insets, making the book ideal for an older beginning reader as well (and fun for adults, too!).The pictures are extremely detailed and colorful, and the illustrated children portray a variety of ethnic appearances.Given my niece's reaction, I'd highly recommend this book for aged 2-3 and up. ... My nephew loves these books, I got him this book first around age 2 and luckily just in time, he wouldn't take his medicine and his Mom referenced "taking it like the dinosaurs" and he was all over it. He's got the whole set now and knows more dinosaurs names than I ever knew existed and corrects me if I pronounce them wrong. Smart kid, great author, and illustrator. You will love these dinosaurs, get it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Our son loves it!
I ordered this book based on reviews, and to be honest, I was not incredibly impressed with it.It is one of the better "opposite" (not all are exactly opposites- spiky and lumpy?) books I have seen, but the most important thing is our 13 month old son loves it!It is one of the top 5 he chooses for us to read out of his MANY books.I don't know if it's the pictures, or if he likes to hear me try to roar, but he likes it, and isn't that what really matters?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!

Editorial Review

Sandra Boynton turns on the charm again in this story about a cuddlydino who refuses to go to bed until he (or she) has the right comfort object. A reflective silvery moon, some pull-out flaps, and a liftable bedspread with a reluctant hero hiding beneath it offer the very small reader a way into the story. The "Binkit" itself, a piece of soft yellow felt, can be stroked for reassurance. Reluctant bedtimers from one to three will enjoy this introduction to the idea of a bedtime routine that ends with comfort, closed eyes, and peace. (Baby to age 3) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Everyone loves a binkit!
My daughter loves this unique lift the flap book. It has the typical Boynton humour we have all come to expect and I'd definitely recommend it to one and all!

5-0 out of 5 stars A new favorite
My 16 month old loves dinosaurs and we've been trying to introduce him to Sandra Boynton. So when we found this book at the library we checked it out - again and again and again....Our son loves this book so much he now requests it and all his other Sandra Boynton books several times a day.And what isn't to like about a dinosaur who has lost his lovey?Even better my husband discovered that the text can easily be sung to the tune of "O, Christmas Tree."Now we cannot read the book.We must sing it instead. We too, have found the flaps slightly fragile, but no more fragile than flaps on any other pop-up type book.We just have to tell our son to be gentle and respect books. Some days it works and some days it doesn't.I think that's just parenthood and childhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Boynton's best!
On the very first page of this book, Dinosaur's agitation is evident as we find out that his binkit is missing. It's easy to feel for the little dinosaur, since his emotion is so visible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book it super awesome!!!Read it NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Or else!!!!!!!
This book is really really cool! I would read this super-de-duper book any time any day. I would encourage anyone to read thia magnificent novel too. Please read it you will definetly like it, I did!!!!!!!! Now, this is about a young 11 year old boy named Nate Twitchal, who lives in Freedom, New Hampshire. He was at his home one day when he was cleaning the chicken house and found a very unusuall egg, if coming from a hen!!! Well, it was true,it did come from the hen, LOL. Nate was soooo interested in what could be in the egg that he begged his parents to let his very suprised chicken to rase it! And they said "fine." So, for many many many weeks the egg finally hatched!! Yeah! You would never guess what was inside of the egg!!.......it was a.....Dinasour!! Then later on Nate meets a ver kind scientist named Dr.Ziemer. He studied the dinosour ber well and he said it was a Tricerotops. The first week it was about 6", The second week it was about double the size, and so on and so forth. Then by the end of the story it is a couple of METERS!!! But, it was a BIG responsibility. There are many conflicts and many good things. At the end the story the government lets Nate keep it and he calls it "Uncle Beasely."Yeeaahh!!!! Happy ending!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's An American Egg...
THE ENORMOUS EGG, written in 1956, is the fantastical tale of young Nate Twitchell of Freedom, New Hampshire, who, one fine day, discovers that one of his chickens has hatched out a baby Triceratops.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for 10 year olds
I teach 5th grade. My class reads this book almost every year as a literature unit. It's a wonderfully imaginative old fashioned story. It also gives classroom teachers a chance to talk about how our government works, the US Constitution and it has a very good message about the evils of McCarthyism (the story was written in the mid 1950's).

5-0 out of 5 stars realistic alternative history
This book has a lot about dinosaur names and how the dinosaurs lived, even the plants they eat. There are a lot of pictures that can help you to learn to recognize them.It is all very well drawn.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's the pictures
I first discovered this book the year it was released.I skimmed through it's pages, but never bought it for myself...just others (nieces, nephews, friends). Now, I am a dad... so, of course I had to buy it for my kids (and for me).
5-0 out of 5 stars A True Classic!
This book is based on a fictional diary found by James Gurney, which tells the story of Arthur Denison and his son William Denison, shipwrecked during one of their voyages and saved by dolphins only to find themselves on an incredible island, unknown to the world, and habituated by dinosaurs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood memories...
Maybe I am just going on childhood memories, but after all the Disney books (Snow White, Three Little Pigs, Pinocchio), Danny and the Dinosaur was my favorite book. I remembered it after twenty years... so it must have made an impact. The letters were big, but it wasn't simple like "See Jane run. See Dick run. See Jane and Dick run." It was a very simple book with a simple plot -- and now I have a [...] son who is in his DINOSAUR EVERYTHING phase, and I am getting it for him! (I know this review isn't helpful, but I just wanted to add to it) The cover has longed changed (it used to be a simpler off-white cover) but it's still the same cute Danny and his dinosaur.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fun, Fun
Danny and the Dinosaur is a delightful tale of imagination and good-humored fun.Danny visits a museum where he meets a dinosaur looking for a little bit of fun after 100 million years of just hanging around. They go and have a great time playing in the city.No one is hurt or placed in danger, and everyone has a good time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gosh How I Used To Long For My Own Pet Dinosaur!
I used to read this sincerely great book to myself over and over as a little girl and I was sure that somehow, no matter what grown-ups said about that big old word "extinction"I would get my own pet dinosaur through the magic of what might be termed "wishcraft". Such a cool, cool book for a child. It let my mind drift away into a world where the impossible was possible and MAN I envied Danny.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Complexity in a fun book
Reading this book to my four and 2 year old takes me back to biology school trying to pronounce all the dinasaurs names but once I just started focusing on the story and fudged my way past the tongue ties I enjoyed this book along with both my boys!It is one of my favorites to read them and one of there favorites to listen too, this does not always happen and I often read books that I wish I had not bought but never with this book, it is cute with a steady beat, and a bit of a lesson attached as it counts backwards from 10 to 0. The googly eyes and illustrations are also an added attraction for my boys.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is hilarious...
I love the detail and thought that went into all the pictures. The story rhymes very well.As for the name "nut brain" is really referring to some dinosaurs having brains that were the size of walnuts.I noticed a lot of soda bottles (no brands), was just trying to picture the dinosaurs as the children they see out and about. What your child eats and drinks really is a model of what you eat/drink or that you are a sucker and make like different meals for everybody at your table or tv for that matter, haha. The only soda in my home is Henry Weinhardts root beer and its been there for a long, long time.Every adult who has seen this book I've given to my 6 month old daughter says this ones going to delight her for a long, long time.

1-0 out of 5 stars How much did coke pay for the ads?
At first glance this is a great book. However, once you've read it a few times you begin to notice the bottles of coke that feature in almost every illustration. The author, illustrator, and publisher should be ashamed of themselves. We all know that kids are exposed to lots of advertising on TV and at the movies, but do we really need to start worrying about product placements in children's books as well? This is a clever book and I was looking forward to sharing it with friends and exploring the other books in the series. The greed of those involved with this book have changed my mind, however. ...
